This award is bestowed upon only one deserving recipient for Allen County. The award is designed to honor a top student in each of Ohio's eighty-eight counties, and is named after a former respected State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
It is a distinct honor to be selected and the selection criteria are rigorous. The award is presented at a mid-week luncheon in Columbus in the spring of each year at the annual conference of the Ohio Educational Service Center Association. The Allen County Educational Service Center also provides a $200 award.
Application materials can be obtained from school counselors in January.
This award is presented by the Allen County Board of Commissioners at one of their regularly scheduled meetings, typically in May or early June each year. It is designed for high quality Allen County students that have well-rounded accomplishments, along with displaying a need factor to attend college. There is a cash award along with a revolving loan fund.
