SESA

About SESA

The SESA program was developed in 1989 when engineers from BP Chemicals, the Lima Refinery and educators from Allen County came together to discuss concerns regarding the minimal number of high school graduates interested in pursuing math and science related careers.

SESA is an innovative program that brings exciting, hands-on science lessons to the classroom. These lessons have been  designed to inspire young minds, generate a love for science and provide powerful enrichment to students in kindergarten through eighth grade. All the lessons, provided by SESA, were developed by engineers, scientists and teachers and align with the Ohio State Learning Standards in Science. They reinforce scientific concepts and methodologies and encourage students to become inquiry-based learners.

The Chemical Compound companies have changed ownership several times since the inception of the program, but their support remains steadfast due to their firm belief of it's worth.  Currently, Ashland, Fort Amanda Specialties, Husky Lima Refinery, INEOS, and Nutrien are the corporate sponsors. The Allen County ESC is the coordinating and fiscal agent for this program to all public school districts and the five industries in Allen County.

Scientists in the Classroom

The SESA Steering Committee is excited to announce that Rachel Smith will be joining the SESA team as the Teacher in Training. Scientists and engineers from the sponsoring companies are excited to accompany Rachel into the classrooms to provide interactive lessons and demonstrations with energy, expertise and enthusiasm.  You can reach  Rachel Smith via email at:  [email protected]

Monthly luncheon meetings entitled, "Meeting of the Minds" or MOM for short, will be scheduled shortly and dates will be announced to interested parties.

What a wonderful gift our Teacher-in-Residence, scientists and engineers bring to our community as they share their knowledge and love of science with the next generation of learners!!  We should always remember to celebrate their selfless volunteerism. It is a powerful investment in our areas.

THANK YOU and hats off to this special group!!!
